Opening-triptych. Sergei Rachmaninoff

Description

The St. Petersburg Governor’s Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Anton Lubchenko, will open the new season with three concerts. The first of them will be dedicated to Sergei Rachmaninoff. The concert will feature Symphony No. 2 and Piano Concerto No. 1.

Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony is one of the most significant scores in Russian and world musical art. After the premiere performance, the press wrote: “The new symphony is, first and foremost, distinctly Rachmaninoff’s own work, freely born of the inner world of a subtle and integral artist who thinks, feels, and experiences independently…”

The First Piano Concerto anticipates the main range of themes and images that fully characterize Rachmaninoff’s style in the years that follow. The composer returned to the score of the work more than once, making important additions. The soloist at the Concert will be Philip Kopachevsky, a renowned pianist whose interpretations are distinguished by subtle nuance and an elegant style of performance.
